Explain SMBC — the wiki for Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

This comic features a man confronting Jesus, asking why his prayers for world peace were never answered. Jesus sighs and says maybe the man would understand better if he saw Jesus pray. When the man asks "You pray too?", Jesus says "Of course I do," and then prays: "Dear insane space monkey who rules reality... please grant mankind world pea--" before being cut off by the cosmic space monkey screaming incoherent gibberish ("KWEEGOOO! KWEEGOOO! BLAAGH!"). The final panel shows Jesus sighing again.

The comic constructs a theological hierarchy in which Jesus himself is subordinate to a higher, utterly irrational being -- an insane space monkey. The joke is that the reason prayers go unanswered isn't that God doesn't care, but that the ultimate authority in the universe is a chaotic, incomprehensible entity that cannot be reasoned with. It's a humorous take on the problem of evil and unanswered prayer: even the divine intermediaries are frustrated by the absurdity of whatever is actually running the cosmos.
