Explain SMBC — the wiki for Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

This comic imagines a scenario in which a black hole is approaching Earth at near-light speed, and the President is informed there is no means of escape for any human being. In response to this existential threat, the Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Arts join together to send a group message into the heavens -- presumably a last testament of humanity.

When asked how the collaboration went, the scientist responds "Not great." The final panel reveals why: the message sent into space is a book with one page reading "Science is Boring" and the other reading "Art is Stupid." The joke is that even when facing extinction and attempting a grand collaborative statement, scientists and artists cannot overcome their mutual disdain for each other's disciplines. Instead of producing something profound, their combined effort devolves into petty insults, satirizing the long-standing cultural divide between the sciences and the humanities.
