Explanation

I am so sorry" -- recognizing the social disaster of having said something horrible-sounding to a near-stranger. The geek instead doubles down: "Technically my statement is still valid!" The humor lies in the classic geek trait of prioritizing logical correctness over social awareness. While the statement is technically accurate (she indeed would not think about attending a stranger's funeral), it comes across as either a veiled threat or a deeply inappropriate comment, and the geek character cannot see past the literal truth of her words to understand their social impact.
