Explain SMBC — the wiki for Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal

This comic tells the story of a company that discovers its employees' workplace anger can be harvested as a literal energy source. It begins when they install a recreation room with punching bags hooked to dynamos and find they are generating so much energy they can sell it back to the state. From there, the company deliberately cultivates employee rage through frustrating policies -- a new dress code, threats of layoffs, demands for handwritten spreadsheets, mandatory company picnics -- all to maximize energy output. As conventional energy prices rise, their anger-fueled profits skyrocket.

The comic satirizes corporate exploitation of workers, taken to an absurd logical extreme. The company treats employees like livestock ("like cows being fed milk-producing diets"), openly engineering misery for profit. It also skewers the meaningless corporate concept of "business consultation solutions." The final panels add a dark twist: the few employees who are genuinely happy are told they "may have psychological problems," while those who see through the charade and find meaning in nihilism are fired. Only those who can be kept in a perpetual state of productive rage are useful.
