Explanation
The Joke
A couple is discussing their cats. One person asks "Do we own the cats or do they own us?" -- a common lighthearted question among cat owners. The other person recounts that once, their cat dropped them off to get their nails done and then picked them up afterward, as if the cat were the one running errands with a pet human in tow. In the second row, the cats are shown making typical cat sounds ("Mow mow meow mow") while a grumpy, angry-looking cat says "Sometimes we just start talking and... I have no idea why."
The comic takes the well-worn joke that "cats actually own their humans" and plays it out literally: the cats treat the humans as pets, dropping them off at the groomer (nail salon). The second panel then flips to the cats' perspective, where one cat admits that sometimes they just start meowing for no reason -- mirroring how cat owners often wonder why their cats randomly vocalize.
The Humor
The comedy works by taking a cliche observation ("cats own us, not the other way around") and committing to it with specific, mundane details -- the nail salon drop-off is the kind of boring errand a pet owner does, which makes it funnier when attributed to a cat. The second half adds a layer by showing the cats having the same bewildered relationship with their own behavior that humans have when observing cats. The grumpy cat's admission that it has no idea why it meows is a satisfying mirror of how mystified humans are by cat vocalizations.
