Explanation
In this comic, a woman explains: "People tend to think gender is socially constructed. I'm more holistic." Another person asks her to elaborate: "I have a set of criteria that I think are socially constructed: legal, anthropological, philosophical, religious, scientific, historical, political..."
The second person asks: "Why those categories in particular?" The woman responds with additional context about her position, and the other person pushes back: "Constructed?"
In the final panel, the woman shouts: "LASERS!" -- apparently as an example of something that is not socially constructed, or as a non sequitur to escape the increasingly circular conversation.
The comic satirizes academic debates about social constructionism -- the philosophical position that many categories and concepts (gender, race, etc.) are created by society rather than being "natural" or inherent. The joke is that the character claims to be "more holistic" than the standard constructionist view, but then proceeds to list essentially every possible domain of human knowledge as socially constructed, which is just a more verbose way of saying "everything is constructed."
When pressed on whether her categories themselves are constructed (a classic philosophical trap -- if everything is socially constructed, then the very framework you use to identify social constructions is also constructed, leading to infinite regress), she escapes by yelling "LASERS!" The absurd non sequitur serves as a humorous acknowledgment that these philosophical discussions often reach a point of diminishing returns where the recursive logic becomes inescapable, and the only honest response is to abandon the conversation entirely. Lasers, being physical phenomena that exist regardless of social convention, might also represent a tongue-in-cheek appeal to objective physical reality as a way to break free from constructionist recursion.
