daddies
Explanation
The Joke
A child asks how mommies are different from daddies. The first response explains that mommies are like symbiotes and daddies are like commensalistic organisms -- using biological terminology for different types of parasitic or symbiotic relationships. Another person offers that mommies exist on a continuous spectrum of all possible states of physical and mental well-being, while daddies see things in only two discrete states: "dead" and "not dead." A third notes that a mommy is very warm, shampoos your hair, and fills your belly, while a daddy "bullets you with cattle prods while calling you a nurse."
The final panel has a character declare that a "woke parent" is a hypothetical construct called an "involved parent," which their child will "never actually experience." The comic presents increasingly absurd and darkly humorous contrasts between stereotypical mother and father roles, escalating from pseudo-scientific jargon to outright absurdist descriptions of fatherhood as negligent or bizarre.
The Humor
The humor builds through escalation. Each successive answer to the innocent question becomes more absurd and more unflattering to fathers. The comic plays on stereotypes about the difference between maternal and paternal involvement, with mothers described in warm, nurturing terms and fathers described in progressively more ridiculous and neglectful ones. The use of scientific-sounding language (symbiotes, commensalistic organisms, continuous spectrum, discrete states) to describe something as basic as parenting roles adds an academic absurdity. The final panel's "involved parent" joke lands as a punchline about how the idealized concept of an equally-involved father is treated as purely theoretical, like a particle in physics that has been predicted but never observed.
