Explanation
The Joke
A couple is trying to decide where to eat. One person asks, "Where do you wanna eat tonight?" The other responds, "I don't care." The first person starts to get frustrated: "Don't gimme that 'you don't care' -- you say you don't care but then you reject everything I suggest, and I am not gonna go through that with you again!"
The second person clarifies: "No, I mean I don't care about anything. Life is meaningless. Give me whatever. Who cares." The first person, now satisfied, responds, "Great!" The final panel shows them happily walking into Taco Bell together.
The Humor
The comic plays on the universally relatable frustration of couples trying to pick a restaurant, where "I don't care" almost never actually means "I don't care." The twist is that one partner's response genuinely is total indifference -- but it stems from existential nihilism rather than simple agreeableness. The first person is relieved because, for once, "I don't care" actually means "I don't care," even though the reason behind it (complete existential despair) should arguably be more concerning than being picky about restaurants. The Taco Bell destination in the final panel is the perfect punchline -- it is exactly the kind of place you would only end up at if someone truly, nihilistically did not care where they ate.
