Frog
Explanation
The Joke
A witch curses a man, declaring he will be a frog until he finds true love's kiss. He protests, asking how he is supposed to do that as a frog. The witch helpfully suggests he try kissing a frog princess, and notes that she checked -- his true love is indeed a frog. The man then asks if the curse means he was literally stolen from the pet store, and the witch confirms: "It's Herd Steve from the pet store."
In the next panels, the man (now a frog) kisses the frog and the curse is lifted. However, the final panel shows the man and the frog (now seemingly his partner) standing together awkwardly, with the man saying "I think we should see other people," suggesting that while the fairy tale mechanics worked perfectly, the actual relationship is not going to last.
The Humor
The comic deconstructs the classic fairy tale "frog prince" trope by taking it to its logical and uncomfortable conclusions. Instead of a romantic quest, the true love turns out to be an actual frog from a pet store, and the curse-breaking kiss is treated as a mundane transaction rather than a magical moment. The final punchline -- wanting to see other people immediately after the curse is broken -- highlights how forced the fairy tale logic of "true love's kiss" really is. Just because a magical curse says someone is your true love does not mean you actually want to be in a relationship with them, especially if they are a frog named Steve from a pet store.
