Explanation
This comic is a joke about the familiar experience of starting a gardening project that spirals wildly out of control.
The strip is labeled "Day 1: Gardening." A person surveys their yard and notes they need more soil. They observe that leaves could be composted into soil, old food could be added, and they could grow plants from it. The scene then cuts to a dramatic wide shot showing that their modest garden project has somehow transformed the entire landscape -- the yard has been turned into a vast pastoral scene with rolling green hills, a winding road, and even what appears to be a red barn or vehicle in the distance.
In the final panel, the gardener's partner arrives home and is stunned. The gardener sheepishly explains: "So I was just gonna plant some tomatoes but I got carried away." The partner's exasperated response -- "You were just gonna try talking to me first" -- implies this is a pattern of behavior, and that the gardener has a tendency to pursue projects to absurd extremes without consulting anyone.
The humor comes from the relatable experience of scope creep in home projects, exaggerated to a cartoonish degree. What started as planting a few tomatoes ended with reshaping the entire landscape.
