Explanation

The "genius" compromise: one partner wears night-vision goggles, so they can see in the dark while the room remains pitch black for the other. The first person's initial assumption that the goggles are "bondage gear" adds another layer of humor -- the night-vision goggles look kinky enough to pass for something else entirely.
