love-2
Explanation
The Joke
A man confidently declares to another man that "love isn't real" and that it is "a concept women invented so they could control men." This is a recognizable trope of bitter, misogynistic rhetoric often found in certain online communities. The second man then asks the logical follow-up question: "So when are they getting around to that?" -- meaning, when are women actually going to start controlling him using this supposed invention? The first man sheepishly responds "any minute now," revealing that no woman has shown any romantic interest in him whatsoever.
The Humor
The joke exposes the irony at the heart of a common misogynistic talking point. The man claims women use love as a manipulation tool, but his own experience reveals the opposite: he has never actually been in a relationship or been "controlled" by love at all. His theory about women's grand conspiracy falls apart because it requires women to actually want to interact with him, which they apparently do not. The comic satirizes the phenomenon where people who complain the loudest about being manipulated by the opposite sex are often those with the least romantic experience, projecting their frustration and insecurity into elaborate conspiracy theories rather than engaging in self-reflection.
