Explanation
This comic plays on the idea of hierarchical social structures and the human need to feel superior. A robot tells a group of forest creatures that they think life is pointless, and the creatures respond that of course it's not. The robot then points out that since the creatures are in a "pretty medieval feudal society," they'll always need someone to look down on. The robot assigns each of them a letter value, but the letters go in a loop -- each creature can technically look down on someone else, forming a circle. The final panel reveals this as the "Circle of Losership," a pun on the "Circle of Life" from The Lion King.
The humor works on multiple levels. First, it satirizes how social hierarchies are often arbitrary and circular rather than truly linear. Second, it parodies the feel-good "Circle of Life" concept by replacing it with something cynical and demeaning. Third, the comic suggests that the desire to rank ourselves above others is so fundamental that even when the rankings are meaningless and circular, we still find comfort in them. The robot, as an outside observer free from biological social instincts, exposes the absurdity of the whole enterprise.
