They'll Be Parting
Explanation
The Joke
In a scene from the Book of Exodus, a follower frantically tells Moses: "Moses! What do we do?! You can't fight off all these kings!" Moses calmly replies: "Oh, they'll be parting soon." The next panels show Moses violently attacking the kings with what appears to be martial arts or physical combat, literally making them "part" (splitting them apart physically). The final panel reveals this is a movie poster for "MOSES: BOOK OF WRECKSODUS" -- coming soon.
The Humor
The joke is a pun on the word "parting." In the biblical story of Exodus, Moses famously parts the Red Sea so the Israelites can escape from Egypt. When Moses says the kings will "be parting soon," the listener (and reader) initially assumes he means they will leave or that the sea will part. Instead, Moses physically tears through the enemies himself, "parting" them in a violent action-movie sense. The title "Book of Wrecksodus" is a portmanteau of "wreck" and "Exodus," framing the whole thing as a ridiculous action movie reboot of the biblical story. The comic plays on the trend of Hollywood turning every classic story into a gritty action franchise.
References
The comic references the Book of Exodus from the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, specifically Moses's parting of the Red Sea (Exodus 14). The action-movie poster format parodies Hollywood blockbuster reboots of biblical and historical material, such as "Exodus: Gods and Kings" (2014) directed by Ridley Scott.
